Understand the law, your responsibilities and how to safely carry OC spray in the Northern Territory

About the workshops

With the introduction of the OC spray trial in the Northern Territory, many people have questions about when and how OC spray can be legally carried and used. Our OC Spray Safe Carriage & Handling Workshop provides clear, practical information to help community members understand their responsibilities and make informed decisions about personal safety.

This workshop focuses on the legal framework surrounding OC spray, including who can carry it, where it can be carried and the circumstances in which it may be used. Participants will gain a better understanding of the responsibilities that come with carrying OC spray and the importance of using it appropriately and lawfully.

The session also explores safe storage, carriage and handling practices to reduce the risk of misuse or accidental deployment. Through guided discussion and practical advice, participants are supported to understand how OC spray fits within a broader personal safety strategy.

Our goal is to ensure Territorians feel informed and confident about the laws and safety considerations surrounding OC spray while reinforcing the importance of responsible use.
