Notify Police, Fire and Emergency Services when you’ll be away from your home and provide contact details in case an incident occurs at your property
Going away? Fill out the Absentee Advice Form!
If you’re planning to be away from your home for an extended period of time, completing an Absentee Advice Form is a simple step that can help emergency services respond more effectively if something happens at your property. The form allows you to notify Police, Fire and Emergency Services that your home may be vacant, or to provide the contact details of the person responsible for the property while you are away, such as a neighbour, family member or house sitter.
Having this information available means authorities know who to contact if there is an emergency, suspicious activity, or an incident at the property. It can also assist police in understanding patterns within an area — for example, if several homes are vacant at the same time. In the past, information from absentee advice forms has helped alert police to increased vulnerability in certain areas and has even contributed to increased patrols where multiple properties were unoccupied.
Submitting the form is a simple way to help ensure your home is looked after while you’re away and to support a more informed and responsive approach from emergency services if an issue arises.
How it works
Simply fill out the Absentee Advice Form with details about your property, the dates you’ll be away, and contact information for yourself or a trusted person responsible for the home while you’re gone. Once submitted, the information is sent directly to our Police Support Officer, who records the details and places a flag on their system.
This means that if Police, Fire and Emergency Services attend or receive a report relating to that address while you are away, the information will appear on their system. Having this context available allows them to respond more quickly and appropriately, and know who to contact if needed.
Privacy & confidentiality
The information provided on the Absentee Advice Form is treated as private and confidential. Your details are only used for the purpose of notifying Police, Fire and Emergency Services that your property may be unattended and to provide appropriate contact information in the event of an incident.
The information is securely recorded by our Police Support Officer and is only accessible to authorised personnel who may need it to respond to an emergency or incident at the property. It is not shared publicly or used for any other purpose.
